In my year off, I’ve reconnected with the guitar. Not saying I can play, but, I’ve had the time to practice more, try a few things and though I’m still not confident enough to play in front of anyone but Lisa, I am getting a bit better at it. Doesn’t hurt many songs and lessons are available online and I have taken advantage. Here are a couple of songs I’ve been messing with lately. (Funny they don’t sound as good, but I’ll keep tryin’)
Lerse and I roadtripped to Kent (Ohio) last week to see some old friends visiting from Florida. Jan and Andy (forever to be called Jandy) went to Kent State with Lerse. In fact, I believe, Andy may have been the author of the nickname, Lerse. Jan was Lisa’s roomate, and they have been dear friends of ours for over twenty years. OK, enough of the background. Besides arguing with me, Andy has always had a great ear for music. (There, Andrew, I SAID IT). He has long served as inspiration for me to look beyond the ‘hits’ and listen to artists, bands, and titles that don’t get the attention they deserve from mainstream media. Somewhere in our hike through campus we got onto the topic of music and I thought I would share. Here is one of the bands mentioned: Lemon Jelly….. not a new band BUT different, watch and enjoy!
…as always it was great to see you guys and we cannot wait to see you again! Much Love!
If you watch any TV you may have heard this song as part of the latest Sam Adams beer campaign. I caught it the other day on the tail end of a commercial and ‘Shazamed’ it. The song is called ‘Overwhelmed’ by Tim McMorris. If you’ve ever really cared for someone, or, are in that lifelong relationship you never thought you’d have, take a minute and listen to the words!
This is a video I found on YouTube, not the ‘official video’, but I couldn’t help see the happiness of both of these people as they get married. I’m sure after you watch it you’ll agree it works (not sure if this is an actual wedding or not). One of the comments…I don’t even know these people, but, I feel like I should send them a wedding gift!
This is my friend Ron, we’ve been friends for the better part of 20 years. Most of the time we’re together these days, we’re on golfing trips with friends. This photo was taken in Newcastle Village in Northern Ireland. Here’s the point, when I travel, I pack light, just enough clothes to last the trip. When Ron travels, he’s prepared for any occasion, it’s why I call him ‘the clothes horse‘. If you view the video below you’ll see why!
I’ve never been a huge fan of the Beach Boys, however, you cannot ignore the incredible harmony Brian Wilson orchestrated with these guys. Recently the Beach Boys, who are on their 50th Anniversary Tour, took a break to do a couple of acoustic songs in the Rolling Stones studios. I’ve always loved this song, even if it was ‘in my own room’ trying to come of age back in the day! Beach Boys-In My Room
….so I’m either getting old or I’ve lost my zest for music radio. I’m sure the truth is somewhere in the middle or I might be a casualty of too many years in media and have grown jaded by almost everything. Still, I love a great pop song in verse, chorus, verse! I’ve been on the lookout for a couple which might keep us humming through the summer months and there are a quite a few contenders ….here are some of the songs which we might keep an ear out ….
